This seems to happen to me a lot in this community. The last post is by me, about the same topic.
Go see Water! It is amazing. Really.

November seems like forever to wait for Deepa Mehta's Water.
I doubt I'll be able to catch it at the Toronto Film Festival.

Greetings one and all,
This community is being established for those who desire to pray for India, have a heart for India, who are Indian (living anywhere), are missionaries in India, or just want to check out what God is doing in that large region. The purpose of this community will be cultural exchange between regions of India (anything from Divali to Desi food recipes to religious/cultural study to Bollywood), understanding, keeping up with news and needs of India, and correspondences between all affiliated with India in some way.
I look forwards to seeing what God will accomplish as we all gather together with one purpose.
--- all welcome to join ---

As I`ll be in Hyderabad for 6 months soon I`d like to know about good Telugu films(available with subtitles as I don`t speak Telugu at all),too.I`ve been told,Telugu cinema was terrible but there MUST be some good films, too.

I'm deaf and I have to watch a movie called, "Fire" for class. Unfort. it is not subtitled and is dubbed instead, so I can't watch it and understand what is happening. Does anyone know where I could find a script or transcript of this movie online?

I'm not sure if anyone has posted about Gurinder Chada's "Bride and Prejudice." It was quite an attempt to take a mainstream bollywood film approach to an English plot for mainly English audiences. But, the singing opera style in English to filmi and folk Indian tunes was hard to bear and really put me off.

Hey, I know this community is rather...completely dead, but I was wondering if anyone saw the movie Flavors? Personally I thought it was good. If you haven't seen it, the summary is here: http://www.flavorsthemovie.com/synopsis.h
Some don't like it, some do. I thought it was nice and different for American Desi type movies.

Okay well, the last time I posted (which incedentally is the last post) I asked about the film Khamoshi Pani: Silent Waters http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0357283/
I have now recently seen the movie and I thought it quite amazing. If anyone is in the Toronto area, it is playing at The Carlton on College St.

Hey guys so what do you all think of Kal Penn's recent take-off into the Hollywood scene? A far way from American Desi. Don't you think?

2:17PM - Gulabi Aaina
First of all, hello, I'm new to the community. *waves* I wanted to post about a film I saw, so here goes. All comments are welcome.
So, I went to DC to see the screening of Gulabi Aaina this past Saturday. It was totally fun. We sat around on the floor and watched the film and then the producer gave a presentation and did a quick Q&A session. I asked him how long it had taken to film it. "Five days," he replied. Wow. "And I bet the shower scene took up four days," one of my friends chimed in. We all laughed. One of the American boys who was there asked where he could get a boy just like Mandy (one of the characters in the film played by Rishi Raj). We laughed. The producer said that Rishi was single and looking--he could have his email address if he wanted. LOL.
Anyway, here is the synopsis of the film.
And here is the Trikone Review of the film. You can read more about the film at the Gulabi Aaina website.
My personal thoughts? I thought it was amazing. Hilarious. Appropriately campy. Fun to watch. And it was in Hindi--WOW--most films about the Indian gay community are always in English, which almost implies that homosexuality is a western import. It was important to have it in the language of the people. One of the funny linguistic quirks was this. In Hindi, the verbs are conjugated according to gender. The drag queens were consistently using the feminine verbs--this struck me. The dance scenes were great. And, of course, Endwin Fernandes (who plays Shabbo) is a drag queen in real life--so he was GREAT, and a great dancer, too. Very convincing. It's good to see a Hindi movie that's not Bollywood.

4:05PM - books/author suggestions?
hii! just a quick question--
we've been assigned a project for our American Literature class at school where we have to pick an author and read at least two books on him/her, pretend to be him/her, and have a round table discussion in that personality.
I was looking for an author and Jhumpa Lahiri came to mind (author of the Namesake and Interpreter of Maladies) because she rights about life as a second generation Indian in America. I was wondering, does anyone have any suggestions of any authors that write books (with at least two books published to date) that deal with the same issues as Lahiri?
any suggestions for other authors/books that would be interesting to read for a project like this?
Thanks in advance! :]
(i apologize if this isn't extremely relevant to the community, i was looking for a wide range of opinions as much as possible...)
